You can't go home again....

This is the Lesch homestead in Rockport, Mass. back in 1973. I lived upstairs with my brother and parents. (My sister was already out on her own.) My father was a pewter smith and my folks ran The Weathervane gift shop on the first floor. It was an old fish barn renovated to an apartment, work shop and gift shop.

My son now works part time in the candy store to the left and I worked there back in the 1960s. (Photos by the National Archive on Flicker.)

Here's my father working on pewter items in the back shop.

When my parents died my brother, sister, and I sold the place.
Here I am outside "The Old Lesch Place" on Memorial Day 2012.....Wow! A cup cake shop!

Note...the  "Majas" were actually painted somewhere before 1800. More pillows.

We have Goya's Ghost in the Netflix queue. Too bad "The Naked Maja" with Ava Gardner isn't on Netflix. Bad but fun to watch.

The effect of the tsunami on Japan’s tech industry
Japan is still assessing the scale of Friday’s devastating tsunami, but in many parts of the country production has ground to a halt, and any long-term production issues could have a ripple effect on the technology industry.
Many computer and mobile device manufacturers, including Apple and Dell source digital imaging and storage parts manufacturing out to Japan which supplies about 40% of the world’s NAND memory – which is used in products such as Apple’s iPad. Japan is also responsible for a fifth of the world’s semiconductor supplies, and produced about 14 percent of the world’s computers, consumer electronics and communications gear last year...."

Dell's 4Q earnings disappoint; stock falls 5 pct
Dell's 4th-quarter earnings decline 18 percent on weak sales to consumers, government agencies.....
Associated Press – Tue, Feb 21, 2012 6:33 PM EST.......

".....Like other personal computer makers, Dell was squeezed in the past quarter by parts shortages caused by massive flooding in Thailand in October. The fallout from that catastrophe temporarily closed Thailand factories that churn out hard drives, driving up the prices that Dell had to pay for them. .." least that what the nice clean cut young man from STAPLES just told me.

Not Racist, just true.....

"Mr Lesch if you'll get your computer back from STAPLES we can send a DELL technician to your home when we get the replacement Motherboard."

I told the gentleman that it's a holiday "here."

I still like the way Indian people speak English, especially Indian women.

शुभ रात्रि!

(good night!)

The Two Towers, not Tolkien

My neighbor who is the IT man for Harvard Univesity helped me get my old tower running again on a new hard drive. My tower with all my current photos and links is still not here. I sent an email to Michael Dell of Dell Computers himself on this issue. Now we'll see some action!

Three Musketeers 2011. Give it another chance.

We went to see this in the theater but not in 3 D. My daughter and I watched the DVD last night with the commentary on. Try that and you may like this film a bit better. It really looked like all involved were having fun making it. I remember not liking  the 17th century costumes on the main cast but the commentery revealed that the costumes were stylized on purpose. OK..I can accept THAT along with the air ships. You may be surprised at how much of the building locations are REAL and not CGI.

My daughter can also add M'lady de Winter and Constance to her collection of nasty and sweet doomed heroines from literature.

Maybe my PC will come home some day and I won't have to post from work.

Sorry to whine...

I'm still waiting for my computer to come back. If a store says "we fix computers" they may not and just ship them out. Clean cut boy store managers that call you by your first name are not a thing I like. I sure hope they don't loose all my pictures and documents on the hard drive. I didn't get a chance to back it all up for a month on my external drive. Get one of those if you can and use it frequently.

I'm going to the Cape Ann "Skepti Camp" Saturday which I assured my dear wife is NOT atheist, just skeptical with presentations about fads, scams, and monsters. Skeptical, not cynical. My poor wife was "Shocked! Shocked I tell you!" when she found out the Reason Rally I went to in Washington was an Atheist Rally. ( She is a Catholic "church lady" and has numerous wonderful and supportive friends in her church.) At lease she and my daughter are trying to pray me into heaven. More toy soldiers to come with more cantinieres and women's 1800-early 1900s undergarments. Please stay tuned.

Trying the iPad....

It's a bit had to be used to. Until I get my computer back from Mitt Romney's minions, my wife's iPad will have to do. I don't have access to my photos. Stay tuned for more LEMAX conversions and a HaT Napoleonic set up on my table top.

My Computer is Down

$700+ plus for a new one a  month and a half ago and the Mutha board goes. $69 plus more than a week to wait from the place I bought it and a sign that says "we fix computers" They sign should also say (just not here.)

I'll be back with updates and more blog entries some time next week. Please stay tuned.

This is NOT the thing I like.

Replicant figures

Some new figures with conversions. This Replicant's  stretcher team.

In the usual drill two men handled a stretcher.

I can see extra bearers on really bad ground or a man needed special handling.

Towns people vs. outlaws.

A little smoke over the camp fire.

"Cooter" Jones from an earlier entree gets a respectable job. I have two of these figures so I made one to go in the Confederate camp.

Plastic rod shovel handle with Weston Mexican peasant shovel blade.
